Canonbury Brass – Year 6, July 2023
Snakes and Beansnew videos here!

What are we working on for the Union Chapel concert in Year 6? Is there music, are there audio files or videos, is there a joke, a dog, or a codeword?? Read on …

Our concert music for the Union Chapel:
Snakes and Beans
Three great tunes from Simply Brass lovingly hammered, melted, moulded and reformed into an exciting, er, musical recomposition. Just for you!

It is all on this page – I might change things and have a sortout after we've played it a bit ... see how we do!

But for now, please look here, on this page, on the other cards, for the resources you need.

Is there something you need that is not here? Please tell me so that I can help!

Sheet music
You can download your music from here if you missed it or need a spare copy

Here is your sheet music (v.04). We've put fingerings on the music so that you have a reminder of how to play every note! Not elegant, but useful. Here's your music:

Cornet 1 (spicy)

Cornet 2 (mild)

Tenor horn 1 (spicy)

Tenor horn 2 (mild)

And this bit is for enthusiasts only:

Full score – that is, all the music in one place, like the conductor would use.

(Individual players don't need this – this is just for fun, if you are interested in seeing how it works!)

Backings
Practise with the backing – it is a well-known route to megastardom, fame and fortune*

Use your knowledge of the tunes to help you through practising them – you know more than you think! Really really.

Stay calm and remember to listen to the speeds as we move through the three tunes. Can you use your sheet music to remind you which verses to play and which to leave out? The "Roadmap" video can help you with this.

Roadmap!
This ten-minute video is a geography lesson about your Snakes and Beans music. I hope it covers everything about how to read and use the music: if not, please let me know.
You can click the "Fullscreen" button to, er, make it fullscreen, and you can click other stuff like the CC button for hilarious auto-generated subtitles. (Well, it made me laugh ... maybe I ought to get out more?)

Note: Very annoyingly I did, as I feared, have to change to version 0.4 after I had made this video! Grrrrr, but you will be able to follow what I am saying in the video anyway.

Let's work hard on this!
This is it! The Big Deal Union Chapel Concert ...

We can do an amazing job here!

I know that you can give it some real energy and commitment and we will create something to be very proud of. It is going to take work – please be prepared to really put some special effort in. Then we can do the absolutely best job possible.

I'm not kidding here.  This is the Last Big Blow that we will do in Year 6 Brass at Canonbury – let's make it one to remember!

Thank you.

Videos and codewords ...

There are codewords too!

Cornet video x1
I play you the basic fanfare tune for cornets just once through.

Cornet video x3
Here is the whole performance of your cornet part, three times through, loud, soft, loud. Keep going IN TIME when you go back to the start!

Tenor horn video x1
I play you the basic fanfare tune for tenor horns just once through.

I don't have a tenor horn at home so I am playing on a big low trumpet that has the same notes!

Tenor horn video x3
Here is the whole performance of your tenor horn part, three times through, loud, soft, loud. Keep going IN TIME when you go back to the start!

Tim-ka and Te-te
Explaining the rhythm and how it is written. This rather long video (more than 5 minutes) is really only for enthusiasts who like counting and patterns – you don’t HAVE to watch it. It contains a codeword that you can swap for dojos, or just praise.

Do we need more videos? Maybe not … what do YOU think?
Please watch this one, understand what I’m asking, and please let me know if you need the other videos …

If you watch long enough you will see me messing up the rhythm that I am teaching you!  Oops, please don't tell anyone …

Tenor horn video x3
Here is the whole performance of your tenor horn part, three times through, loud, soft, loud. Keep going IN TIME when you go back to the start!
