Canonbury Primary School Brass Ensemble plays a jazz classic
We're playing this in the Summer Concert at the Union Chapel on Tuesday 11 July. It will need commitment and very hard work from all of us to get it good enough – but it will be worth it!
This is a very popular jazz standard. It's also known as When the Saints Go Marching In – Oh When The Saints is actually the first line of the lyrics. It seems to be around 120 years old, or more, originating in a hymn or gospel song … you can read more about it in ❗this Wikipedia article which also talks about some of the many, many recorded versions.

There are codewords too!
This is just a computer playing from the score, but it is all there.
This is at a basic speed of 144 BPM (Beats Per Minute), which is probably about as slow as we could go ...
If we get good at it, and we are feeling a bit brave … how about 160 BPM?
Do you agree that it might be more fun and exciting at this speed? Can we do it?? Let's find out!
I have ideas! It could be jazzier, harder (spicy and mild cornets?) longer … let's talk. Let's hear your ideas please!
There will be further changes to the music and to this web page. Please check back often and especially if I mention it in rehearsal!
I have rushed to get the basics up here as soon as possible. The content is not all here yet. What do you want, what do you need? Please tell me and I will try to make it for you. I want this page to be THE resource to help us all to do a great job with this tune.
